  • Battle Against Sin
The battle against sin is one we weren't designed by our maker to fight! It's His battle, not ours! When we realize that He didn't design us to be some superhero who can resist all sins, it is a great relief. His word says that when we are at our weakest is when He is most strong! It's like the driver's ed. teacher who could apply the brake at any time, but he doesn't! All powerful, almighty God of the universe who pursues a relationship with me doesn't expect me to be perfect. I must surrender
  • Proverbs
In the book of Proverbs we find such knowledge and wisdom and words to live life by. It is a beautiful and wonderful book filled with insight. Since there are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs, and most months have 30 days or so in them, I find it helpful to try and read a chapter of Proverbs each day. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge. (1:7)
There is a path before each person that seems right, but in the end it leads to death (14:12 or 16:25)
    see also 28:26
  • Letting Go of Self
A Sunday School teacher of mine once said that being a Christian isn't hard. What's difficult is letting go of self. Letting go of those things we want to do, when we want to do them. Letting go of the habits we've developed over the years. Giving ourselves totally over to God's care and control is conditional upon letting go of our own lives and taking up our new life as a Christian. We must DAILY deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. We must develop new habits -- quiet time daily
  • Life in A Shelter
God will let us run from Him as far away as we want to run and mess our lives up as much as we want to mess them up because He is a gentleman! He doesn't barge into our lives and force us to obey Him. Revelation 3:20 says He stands at the door and knocks. It's up to us to let Him in to do the work that only He can do. This poem was written the day that I checked myself into drug and alcohol rehab at a homeless shelter. Sometimes the best place that God has our attention is at ROCK BOTTOM!
  • If I Choose to Sin
If we choose to sin, it is a deliberate choice we make, because sin's power over us was defeated at the cross! I used to be the king of justification, rationalization, you name it! But now I realize that when I sin, it is I who has made the choice to sin. The devil didn't make me do it as the expression goes. In the book of James it says that we are tempted by the lure of our own evil desires. Proverbs 3 says to trust in the Lord with all (not some) of my heart and lean not on my own understandi
  • Coming, Lord, Back to You
At one point or another in our lives, we all need to come back to the Lord. Whether we've slightly detoured off the path or are miles away from where we should be, God is only one turn away, right there eagerly waiting for our return to Him. Coming back to the Lord is the greatest decision I've made in my life. I was the most miserable person because for years I was a Christian, living in sin. You can never be truly happy doing whatever it is you want to do when God has so much more in store!!!
  • Three Types of Men
A Sunday School teacher of mine once stated that there are only three types of men in the world: ignorant-those who don't know the Lord, foolish-those who know the Lord yet don't live like it, and wise-those who know the Lord and it is obvious through their lifestyle. This is a poem I wrote after that Sunday school lesson at the Salvation Army
