Why christians are narrow minded?

By: Praveen Raju [Comments (1)]

How much broadminded should a christian be in regard to christian living and thinking so as to be called "broadminded"? Should we be broad minded to accept homosexuality, abortion, rape, lying, cheating, murder, adultery, dishonesty, theft, corruption etc ? How much broadminded should we be in regard to accepting doctrines of other worldviews like satan worship, child sacrifices, jihad (of terrorist), illusionary world , casteism, racism, atheism etc ?

To be broad minded or tolerant in the above lists is to erase the boundary of the good and evil, truth and falsehood, sin and holiness, necessary and unnecessary etc. Only one person is completely tolerant to all the above and it is Satan. For one to be broad minded is to accept and apply all the views to be true, right and absolute without excluding falsehood . This will lead to chaos and unrest in society.

Truth is narrow as it excludes falsehood. Jesus said "narrow is the way that leads to eternal life and broad is the way that leads to destruction". The gospel narrows down to Jesus own claim "I am the way the truth and the life, no man comes to the father except through me". It would be contradictory and confusing if Christians believe and accept that Jesus is the only way and yet believe that there are other ways that also leads to God . In every generation, christ followers submit to the coherent and rational belief and pays the price of being branded as narrow minded in a negative sense.
Therefore a true tolerence is not tolerating evil but living the truth weather others like it or not. It is to 'respect' the 'person' but not 'accept' his 'views' if its based on falsehood.

Summarizing the above: In a positive sense Christians are narrow minded because;

1. The Gospel saves only those who wants to be saved and does not forces anyone to believe without their making a personal decision. For " the gospel is the salvation of those who beleive"
2. Jesus claims to be the only way truth and the life.
3. If Jesus is the only way to God then its reasonable to exclude other “ways to God."
4.Truth is narrow as it excludes falsehood.
5. Most importantly, Jesus sacrifice on the cross is complete to bring peace with God, to wipe ALL sins and to grant eternal life to all who come to him.

Christians are "narrowminded" because Jesus is " narrowminded" and Jesus is "narrowminded" because he excludes all falsehood. He was 'the absolute truth' in flesh in whom is no sin. Therefore his followers should not be ashamed to be called as "narrow minded" in regard to following the truth.
