Baptism is for anyone who personally believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour to put it simply. The beauty of it is that no one is too old or too young. I was baptised at the age of 19 at the Oasis Christian Centre and it was great but I was nervous though! My religion baptises children at an early age. Is that OK? Well, this is not taught anywhere in the bible but you need to repent of your past and believe in Jesus before being baptised. A person needs to be at a point of understanding. Does it harm baptising my kids? It can be seed to find out more about the Christian faith later on in life, otherwise is it not just a ceremony by a priest sprinkling water on a baby’s head and people watch and having a bit of a part afterwards? When should I do it then? You should do this immediately after repenting of your sin and believing in Jesus just like John the Baptist did in the times that Jesus was around. What do I have to do then? If you feel in your heart Jesus is calling you to be baptised in water speak to your pastor to make sure you are ready and then you testify in front of an audience as in biblical times in front of an audience to show this is a public confession of being dead to sin and alive to God. How should I be baptised then? Peter said in Acts 38 “Change your hearts and lives and be baptised each of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins and you will receive the gift of the Hold Spirit”. The priest will say a prayer over you and maybe give you a scripture for your life before you get wet. What does it all mean then? Being baptised basically means getting fully immersed, in other words getting very wet but this normal water not any holy water as some say but symbolises that baptism not saves you from sin. Peer pressure, the enemy, non-believers and time or even nervousness can often be an excuse to put the event off but God prompts you in your heart until you finally go through with it and believe me you will feel better when you have. Know in your heart and do it because it’s a commandment of Jesus and we if we are serious to follow God need to obey him as you will progress further with your Christian faith. Be encouraged, speak to someone, pray and try not to get drenched!.
