What is an Awakening?

By: Ann Doupont

To start with, it’s the opposite of being asleep or spiritually dead in trespasses. Many have continued to trespass and are in denial. Many make excuses for their way, thinking that their sin is just a part of life.

They have yet to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21). They have not yet come to understand what God expects of them. Some people continue to fall short in the same areas of sin, not knowing that a little leaven spoils the whole lump (Galatians 5:9).

God is calling for holiness and purity in the land. Right now, the Church in America has divided affections. There is deception and confusion and lies rather than the freedom that comes by trusting and obeying the Lord.

God wants to refresh His people, but until repentance comes, He can’t. (See Acts 3:19.) As people turn to the Lord, the veils which have had them blinded are then removed (2 Corinthians 3:16).

They don’t have to wait till they gather together in order to turn to the Lord. This can be done in the privacy of their own homes.

As God fully captures their hearts, everything else will change and what they couldn’t do in 10 years, God can do in an instant of time. Allowing Him full access, surrendering all of ourselves to Him and wanting His help, He’ll be right there to take over.

There is freedom on the other side of this release. The peace that passes all understanding is right there to guard our hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Pride and fear will stop a person from entering into victory. I’ve been taught that procrastination is a form of passive rebellion. There’s no time like the present to come to Jesus, confess our sins and to expect His faithfulness to forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

As we take away the pointing of the finger of blame, we are then no longer yoked to oppression (Isaiah 58:9). God will revive those who are of a humble and contrite spirit (Isaiah 57:15).

Pride says “no.” “I’d rather do it my way.” Jesus said “come to Me....Take My yoke upon you. My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” (See Matthew 11:28-30.

Our way doesn’t work. Only His, does.

Let’s allow the Lord Jesus to fully awaken our hearts to the truth which makes us free and then continue in it. There is no better life than in living completely for Jesus.

Today I was reminded of a song we used to sing in the 1980s. It goes like this: Awaken my heart to love and adore You, O my Lord. Awaken my heart to pour out before You, O my Lord. Awaken my heart to know Your love and to love You in return, freely flowing from an awakened heart.

Author’s note: I had a spiritual awakening over 30 years ago through working the 12 steps of the A.A. program. The 12th step says that having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps, we will continue to carry the message to those who still suffer. Step #11 says that we “sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, praying for knowledge of His will and the power to carry it out.” These steps are based on the Bible and they work. Although their first step says that we admit we were powerless over alcohol, that it was making our lives unmanageable; this step can be used to overcome any addiction, whether it’s food, television, or anything else taking our attention from God.

Once you’re awake, wake up others.

Love,

Ann
