There is a story found in Luke 10 which is about Jesus sending out the seventy two and gives those who find themselves unemployed hope, trust me since graduating from university 4 years ago of which half I have spend being off work I know what it is like first hand and its not pleasant. Jesus encourages us by saying "The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few”. Perhaps today with your pastor or house group leader you could discuss the following questions to see if this can shed some light into your circumstances: • Do you find it frustrating when you see incompetent, lazy people in work when you could be doing the job yourself and they should be on the dole not you? • What can this teach you and how can we deal with this in the proper way? • Do you find being off work as some kind of injustice, unfair or personal against you? • Is this situation a way for me to re-train and work in a different area of employment? • Does God want me to meet the love of my life in a new role or have new friends elsewhere? • Do you think God will come in time of need to bail you out of your circumstances? Whitney Young, Jr. writes “The hardest work in the world is being out of work”. Paige Rense goes further in saying “When I quit working, I lost all sense of identity in about fifteen minutes” then one has to keep going, working endless hours a day to get back on ones feet again. Billy Connelly, the famous comedian quotes “Having been made redundant before it is a terrible blow; redundant is a rotten word because it makes you think you are useless”. Can you identify with the people quoted above as you read these back a few times? There are a few practical tips people can think of to help: • Find out what benefits one can claim from the country of residence we live in. • If you pay tax, write to the tax office and see if you have paid too much and if you are owed some money this could bring in some unexpected income for you. • Pray the right role will come up with the right wage, location and people. • Find out if there are any free courses available for those on benefits or training schemes you can enrol on. • Try to respond well instead of react because of the situation you find yourself, trust me your attitude can determine your altitude. • Daily say to yourself this happens for a reason, I will come out of this stronger. • Enrol with agencies, leave on a good note from previous company, try and get something on headed paper from your old company to confirm you worked there. • Try not to loose hope, things should work out well for those who love God. • Keep good links with people you never know when you may need them. • Things can never get any worse only better and there is lots of support out there. • Don’t be afraid of being humble and asking for assistance. It is hard to grasp but however hard it is things happen for a reason and the timing to when we get a new job is up to God and we can only trust in His will that things will work out for our own good and just pray, pray and pray for the circumstances we find ourselves in today. However we loose our job can depend on how we look at the issue of unemployment and this can be helpful or a hindrance but I pray in the Name of Jesus the right job will come at the right time to which you can give Glory to God for. Amen.
