Those of us who are computer literate know that the F5 key on our keyboards can be used to refresh our screens. When new information has been added to a page, and perhaps old information deleted, all we have to do is push the F5 function key at the top of our keyboards and the screen is refreshed. If there is no new information added, or no old information deleted, and we hit the key; it will stay the same no matter how many times we hit the refresh key. In our lives, we are constantly hearing new information. We are living in the days of the Information Age. Everywhere we go, there are people; and everywhere there are people, there are words spoken. If all we do is listen to others and then add their information to ours, over time we can be on information overload. It can be like two or more computer programs trying to run at the same time and can eventually cause a crash. Inside of each person is a “processing center” which is somewhat like a computer. We each come from a different background, raised with a different set of family rules. We go to school and interact with others, stepping outside of our “comfort zones.” We go to work, to church, and other places and mix with people who are different than we are. If we marry, we find someone vastly different than the people we were raised with as they come from a different set of rules or “programs” than we have. Trying to find the middle ground in any and every relationship can be tough. It’s doable but not always easy or immediate. As we go to God, needing His refreshing, He will remove from us our old words, teachings, habit patterns, stronghold of the enemy, and desires to have our own way. He will then replace them with new thoughts, ones of peace, joy, love and truth. He will show us where we made some mistakes and need to change so that we don’t repeat them. He will remove the old programs running in the background of our lives so that we don’t crash. As we submit to God rather than to the words spoken over us from the past, it’s like He has pushed the F5 key on the keyboard of our hearts and we are refreshed, having a new start in life. As we let go of the old and seek God f or the new, we are then liberated to walk free from the limitations of the world. We are then enabled to walk in the Spirit, not fulfilling the lusts of the flesh. A “lust” is anything that drives a person to try to obtain things forbidden. Being led by t he Holy Spirit within, rather than by the lusts of the flesh, we become overcomers rather than being overcome. We no longer have our own self interests, but His. Let’s come before the Lord each day and let Him push our F5 button and refresh us, and our mental images. There is no other, greater way to live than in the refreshing, enablement, and empowerment of the Almighty! www.anndoupont.org
