Albert Schweitzer once said “I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I do know is the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.” Who do you serve? Joshua 24 v 14 – 21 is a great verse of scripture to challenge our hearts with regards to serving: • Do you fear the lord and faithfully serve him as verse 14 states? • Who do you serve or what serves you? Will you choose to serve Almighty God today as we refer to in verse 15? • Can you say that you are able to serve God and nothing else this fine day as verse 16 & 18 states? • Can you say that God has protected you as you endure to serve God in your lifestyle as verse 17 suggests? • Have you ever forsaken the Lord to serve other Gods and felt the wroth of God or do you always choose to serve the lord and be faithful as found in verses 19 & 21? Sometimes if you do a job well often it means more work, how true is this that if you get a good name for yourself people at church people want you to serve and get more involved, lead or help in other areas of ministry, sound familiar?. Anyway if you don’t do a good job there is every chance they won’t ask you to serve on their team again and you can avoid it altogether so we have a choice depending whether our hearts are really into serving. We all have lives outside of church with work, family and other friends & interests, sometimes serving God and others can lead us to getting hurt, others putting pressure on us to keep on ministering when at times we can get tired, hurt, discouraged with more often than not there are little or few blessings for the work we so tirelessly sow into yet we wonder if we will reap great blessings for the hard work for the Kingdom. When a chef cooks a delicious meal and serves it to his guests, they enjoy it because they are getting exquisite quality food and he knows he has satisfaction from the fact they eat it and praise his cuisine style. Everyone wins both the recipient and the giver, it can happen with the right circumstances with serving. Margaret Paul, Ph.D says "Doing service is a powerful way to open the heart and fulfil the soul. Those people who do service know how much joy they receive from giving to others” Sometimes serving can bring conflict, politics & personality clashes and often it is easier to back off be a spectator than a participator. Will you jump into serving on a ministry team, gain new skills, meet new people and have more life experiences or totally avoid it wondering whether I may meet my life partner there and living in fear not knowing what the unknown will bring? I encourage you to have ago at serving at the end of the day you can always pull out if this is not the correct opening and if this is not right the door will close. By all means pray about it but it is important to note faith without works is meaningless. Bless you as you consider your next move. Amen.
