The law comes in many forms in church today. Each denomination, each pastor, and each person has their own interpretation of right and wrong. If you have ever been around someone that has made you feel that you don't measure up to THEIR standard because of some mistake you've made, some lifestyle you have, or just because you are who you are, you have encountered a religious spirit. I want to help you get completely free from condemnation and the religious pressure that is killing so many, damaging their relationship with God, and keeping them from ever experiencing the pure joy of knowing God for who He really is. The Pharasees of Jesus' day were keepers of the Law of Moses. They set the standard of what was and was not pleasing to God by interpreting the Law of Moses for the people. This spirit is alive and well in the church today! The people who are used by this spirit today still interpret the law (the Bible) and try to 'fix' those around them by using the Word in ways it was never intended by God. Here are some of the ways that they attempt to control the people around them: Your not good enough, try harder. Your not as good as me. I don't do what you do (bad things) therefore I am more pleasing to God than you. You have to work hard to please God, your not working hard enough. I go to church and you don't, you need to get in church and get right with God. I work in the church, (usher, deacon, pastor, etc.) I am pleasing to God. Whether they say it outright or just imply it with their attitude, the spirit behind these attitudes is not the spirit of Jesus. I want to follow up this article with more to cover these religious attitudes that do so much damage to people and their relationship with God. Today I want to give you one truth that can set you free from fear, doubt and condemnation and lead you into right relationship with God. That is this; the Law was given to us by God not to condemn us, but to frustrate us to the point of realizing that we can't possibly live up to His standard! Look at what Paul said in Galatians concerning the Law. Gal 3:24 Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith The proper place of the law in our lives is to frustrate us to the point of turning to Jesus for our justification. Those who attempt to be justified by keeping the Law (the word or some interpretation of it) end up hiding their true character behind religious activity and attitudes. They are frustrated and therefore they frustrate you when you are around them. They cannot live up to the standard they set but they expect you to. Until next time remember these to verses: Mat 11:30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. (Jesus speaking) Pro 13:15 Good understanding giveth favour: but the way of transgressors is hard. If you have struggled and you think it's hard to be a Christian, you have been the victim of mean, religious spirits that want you to have a hard life and blame God for it. I will cover this in more detail next time. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to write me back at ray_matthews@msn.com Blessings to you, Ray Matthews
