Love Never Fails

By: Ann Doupont

We read in the well-known “love chapter” in the Bible that love never fails. Along with those words in 1 Corinthian 13, we find a description of what God’s love is, the type of love which never fails. In 1 John 4, we also find that “God is love.” God, who is love, never fails.

For those of us who are born again, we too need not fail…if we’re walking in love. In the times in which we’re living, this can be challenging, to say the least. We are told in Matthew 24 that because iniquity will abound, the love of many will wax cold. This then seems to imply that the people this is referring to were once walking in love, but then things got rough and they stopped loving like they once had.

I have found that in order to truly love a person who has wronged us, there is the need to first forgive them. It’s impossible to both love a person and hold unforgiveness in our hearts toward them at the same time.

We will get challenged in our “love walks.” God will see to it that some unlovely people and circumstances are sent across our paths to see how we’ll handle it.

I remember an incident where the Lord showed me how to overcome something that had irritated me. Each time the annoying incident occurred, I began to pray for the person who annoyed me. I realized that they really needed prayer, so I began to use the irritation to pray for them. Eventually, it stopped.

When we’re surrendered to Jesus, who lives on the inside of us, He will let us know whether our attitude is right or not. Man may look on the outward appearance, but God sees our hearts. He knows why we do what we do, even if we don’t understand.

Jesus will be returning for a glorious Bride, one without spot or wrinkle (Ephesians 5:27). Although no man knows the day or the hour of His return, we are not to be ignorant of the season.

As we read the end-time accounts (Matthew 24-25; Mark 13; Luke 21), and evaluate where we are, we can see that it’s very soon. Jesus told us to pray that we’re accounted worthy to escape what’s coming. Therefore, I have prayed that for myself. Hopefully, you also have prayed for that.

We are told to save ourselves from this corrupt generation (Acts 2:40) and that by taking heed to ourselves and to our doctrine, we shall not only save ourselves but also those who hear us (1 Timothy 4:16).

At the end of 1 Corinthians 13, we find that what abides is faith, hope and love; that love is the greatest of these. As we let the Lord show us if there is anything stopping His love from flowing through us, we will then find that what we do will not fail…as His love in us will never (not ever) fail.
