Near the beginning of many of the epistles is the word “grace.” We see the apostle Paul who wrote many of these letters to the churches bestowing grace and peace to that church before saying what he was about to say. He also ends each of his epistles with this bestowal of grace. When I was experiencing a severe trial in the early to mid-1990s (yes, it went on for years), I was reminded of a verse in James 4:6 saying that God will give more grace. He said to me to ask Him for grace each day, and so I did that in that season. Some of you who know me now know some of the trials I’ve been experiencing. However, these are nothing compared to what I experienced then. Trials aren’t meant to break us but rather to strengthen us. Every one of us goes through something. Your trial might not be the same as mine, and you might be on a “rest break” right now after having been tried. Or, you might be right in the middle of one of the hardest times in your life, such as I was then. More grace might be needed for you at this time. Whatever you lack, God’s got it and will give it to you if you ask Him for it. Sometimes we don’t even know what it is that we need. God has that answer for us as well. Talk to Him and tell Him that you don’t know what it is that you need. Ask Him what it is and then wait and listen for the answer. Once we know what we need and then ask Him for it, He will provide it for us. His grace is sufficient for us, but sometimes we need to ask for more grace because of what we’re experiencing. James 4:2-3 says that we have not because we ask not (or because we ask with the wrong motives). God doesn’t want His children lacking any good thing. Yet, we must ask.
