Do you have a hope for the future?

By: Mark Crossley

Jeremiah 29 v 11 “For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future”.

Hope is a period of unexpected time in the future that we expect something good to happen, maybe over a bad period of health, education, emotions and circumstances. It maybe the opposite and you desire to gain something.

It may seem a long way off but there is a goal that could be achieved i.e. promotion, volunteering, holiday of a life time or loosing weight as the simmer holidays are rapidly drawing near.

Hope is the opposite of discouragement, something promising rather than feeling down all the time. It is a bit like light at the end of a long dark tunnel in your life; it could be getting over depression or gaining a new relationship just after breaking up with a companion.

What does the bible have to say about horrific incidents that happen globally and what hope is there with God?

There are many sad atrocities like crimes, murders like that of the delightful TV presenter Jill Dando (Murdered for no apparent reason), wars, deception, evil people etc. Don’t we wish and wonder why these happen? Why do we always or most of the time look to God for an immediate solution – it seems as God isn’t doing anything about it.

Take the latest war in Kosovo with President Milosovich treating his country appallingly, up for war crimes and who has little room for negotiation with foreign countries. Only recently is he attempting to show some compromise but stil why isn’t God putting a stop to this up-to-date real life scenario at the time of writing in 1999?.

Different tracks

It is that we have choices to try our best to follow his clear directions for our lives. People like Milosovich and other people with similar behaviour want to go on different tracks. Perhaps if God was head of his mind and heart then this would not happen.

We, as people worldwide, can not stop these events. If we did it maybe a perfect world but sadly it’s not. We could however pray to God for any given situation. And hopefully a change will happen in their actions, then that’s Gods work proven to you.

There maybe no real hope in the world but if you are able to look beyond that or believe in life after earth there is hope and its called eternal life.

As individuals how can God help you?. We know that he can meet with us wherever we are in our lives, happy or sad, rich or poor, well educated or no qualifications, employed or unemployed, or if you feel that you are a middle person who does not do well or badly God gently over time changes us and moves us in a new direction for the better.

This could be meeting your partner to be, career change or developing your character of the person HR wants us to be. As Christians we still have hope for the day when the Lord returns. When he comes back to earth we will hope no longer as God’s destiny will then solve all our answers to our unanswered questions.
Chin up, there is hope whatever your situation today and its in God.
