It’s the weekend before Christmas. Many are preparing for gatherings. Decorations are all over the city. Cards have been sent and perhaps some gifts. Some Christians don’t celebrate Christmas. They’re upset that it’s celebrated on December 25th because they believe that Jesus was born another time of the year. Others don’t like it because it has become so commercialized. As a child, Christmas was a lot different for me than it is now. Then, it was about having a Christmas tree decorated, always purchased one week in advance and taken down the day after New Year’s. It was so predictable. On Christmas morning, we would open up our gifts. As we became adults and had moved away from home, it was always celebrated on Christmas Eve. It had to change because my sister’s family went to her in-laws on Christmas Day. I always had to forego going to the various Christian events which were prevalent on Christmas Eve in the Bay Area because of this. Then, I moved away. Being far away from family at this time of year can be difficult. I know that I’m not alone in this. There are many across the nation who are alone. There are also those who are suffering tremendously. A friend in California lost her mother just over a month ago and is now alone. A friend in Seattle, Washington has been missing since Tuesday. Her husband filed a missing person’s report with the police, telling me that she stopped taking her medication (for diabetes and for bipolar disorder), that she may be at a women’s shelter. There have been tremendous disasters in our nation this year, too many to count. We are indeed living in the end times. Christmas is coming. This year, I prayed that it would be the best one that Jesus has ever had. I sensed that this touched Him. It’s His birthday, not ours. What gift will you give Him this year? I asked my mother that once, about what I should give Jesus for His birthday. She said to give Him myself, and so I did that. That’s what He really wants…you. Please join with me this Christmas season in giving Jesus the best “birthday gift” He has ever received, a full and complete surrender of yourself to Him. Merry Christmas! Love, Ann
