Matthew 7 : 1-2. “Judge other people as you would like to be treated yourself. You will be judged in the same way that you judge others and the amount that you give to others will be given to you”. Stereotyping is rather like judging someone such as when we meet someone for the first time. Whether this is through a job interview, church or social activity we often have a pre-judged image of somebody. It is as if we put them into a category which in social situations this does not change. Maybe because it is difficult to change our perception of a new friend and to accept them as they are and not how we want to treat them in our own likening. In a relationship there is a two way bond between two people in any given situation. When we meet a person I would say the majority of circumstances in life’s walk we get the wrong impression of that person. We could try and apply the phrase “Judge others as you would like to be treated yourself”. If we apply this principle we could get the right impression and our relationships will be stronger. If we were like God we would not stereotype people but accept them as they come into our lives and develop a foundation stone in the relationship. Consider life on earth is the training ground for heaven!. We can even stereotype ourselves by putting on a mask on in different situations that we come across. Different people look at the image we portray and people will often get the wrong impression of us. Perhaps if we are always honest, real and being our true selves it does not matter what people think, the stereotype will be for the right reasons and people around us will like us for who we really are and not how we are judged. When we are involved with meeting people we may do well to consider some of these barriers :- a) To get the right impression of the person. b) We should try to overcome situations by breaking down any differences that we put up by accepting people as they are and taking away all life’s struggles to see that persons natural self by encouraging, supporting and giving people a chance to encounter people’s true image. What we have to bear in thought is that Jesus is always a transforming God and we need to pray that we can overcome this area. For people who do not know God they need to know him for who he is and what he can do for us and not pre-judging the general view of “THE CHURCH” image. Consider carefully what view you would take – If you choose God it could change your life.
