The three-fold conclusion of the Lord’s Pattern of Prayer brings the whole prayer together. “For Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory FOREVER AND EVER.” This is the divine return to God in worship. The three-fold proclamation about God is declared by the Son of God about our heavenly Father to culminate the pattern of prayer. I will examine the components individually in this paper. First, the phrase starts with God’s Kingdom. “For Yours is the Kingdom…” What is the Kingdom? The Apostle Paul writes in Romans: for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Rom 14:17) Jesus proclaims the gospel or good news of the Kingdom. Jesus calls it the Kingdom of Heaven and He instructs us to pray that the Father’s will be accomplished on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus says that our righteousness must surpass the righteousness of the Pharisees and Scribes in the Kingdom in other words, our righteousness is an internal, real and powerful work rather than external actions. This is the righteousness that comes by faith and is expressed in Psalm 45:7, “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness. Therefore, God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of joy above all your fellows.” Kingdom and righteousness are intrinsically linked. “Seek first the Kingdom and His righteousness.” When Jesus proclaimed the gospel of the Kingdom, there seems to be a link with healing every kind of sickness and disease over and over again. The Kingdom is linked with power and we will see that link a little bit later. The Kingdom is linked with freedom and deliverance. The Kingdom is linked with the release from demoniac power. The Kingdom is linked with light, God’s glorious light! This first part of the final phrase of the Lord’s Pattern of Prayer shows God, the Father’s possession the Kingdom. It is His kingdom. It belongs to Him. He is the ruler of the Kingdom. He is the King. He is the Master of the Kingdom. As my mentor and teacher says, “A Kingdom without a King is just DOM (Dumb)…” We are to proclaim the Kingdom, we are to bow down to the King of Kings. We are to worship Him and proclaim HIS KINGDOM. The second part of the final phrase is “Yours is the POWER…” God’s power is linked with His Kingdom. We minister and pray in His power. He gave us the Holy Spirit for power. The gospel of the Kingdom comes with power. Power is everywhere in Scripture starting with Genesis 1:1. The Word of God always points to God’s infinite and limitless power. The power to change lives, the power to heal, the power to deliver, the power to raise the dead, the power to open blind eyes, the power to deliver, the power to release, the power to win any battle. He is omnipotent or all powerful. Is there anything too difficult for the Lord? Is there anything impossible for God? Is there any mountain He cannot demolish? Once again, it is HIS POWER. Power belongs to Him. There is nothing He cannot accomplish with His power. I cannot think of a more appropriate way to wrap up prayer than with His power. The third part of this pattern of prayer is “Yours is the glory…” The glory of God is the chief purpose of God, His glory. There is no loftier of subject than the glory of God. The total purpose of God in all He does is for His glory. The chief end of man is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever. The way we enjoy Him is to glorify Him in fact it could be better stated, “The chief end of man is to glorify Him BY enjoying Him forever!” Come with me on a journey as we study the glory of our God. Psalm 19:1 states "The heavens are telling of the glory of God..." What is the glory of God? The word in Psalm 19:1 is "kabod" which comes from the word "kabad" which means "heavy" or "to make weighty" which is translated as "abounding with" or "boast". The theme of glory of God leaps out of the pages in the Old Testament numerous times: Deuteronomy 5:24 God -"show us His glory" Joshua 7:19 Man - "give Glory to God" I Samuel 6:5 Man - "give Glory to God" I Chronicles 16:35 Man - "glory in Your praise" II Chronicles 5:14 God - "glory of the LORD filled the house of God" Psalm 19:1 Heavens - "telling of the glory of God" Psalm 29:3 God - "God of glory thunders" Psalm 62:7 Man - "my glory" Psalm 79:9 God - "glory of Your name" Isaiah 35:2 Man and God - 'They will see the glory of the LORD" Man sees it, God reveals it Ezekiel 8:4 Man and God - "the glory of the God of Israel was there" It was God's presence. Ezekiel 9:3 God - "glory of the God of Israel went up" It was something going up. It is God's presence. Ezekiel 10:19 God - "the glory of the God of Israel hovered over them" It was God's presence. (also Eze 11:22) Ezekiel 43:2 God - "the glory of the God of Israel was coming from the way of the east" "the earth shone with His glory" God's presence. In the New Testament, the word is "doxa" which means approval, praise, honor, and glory. This theme springs from the inspired word of God with refreshing potency: John 8:54 - Jesus states "If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing; it is My Father who glorifies Me" Jesus says that it is not His role as a bondservant to glorify Himself, but it is the Father's role to glorify the Son. John 11:4 Jesus friend Lazarus in sick but Jesus clearly says that it is not "to end in death, but for the glory of God" John 11:40 Jesus questions, "Did I not say to you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?" This passage leads us to the profound conclusion that through the eye of the storm, suffering, sickness, disease, and tears that if we BELIEVE we will see the glory of God. The glory of God is manifested to those who believe. The glory of God is seen in the miraculous. God causes things to happen for the ultimate display of His glory. The crescendo is when Jesus reveals the truth, "I am the resurrection and the life". Jesus' victory over death manifests His glory. Acts 7:35 The stoning of Stephen is a moving story of a martyr who "sees the glory of God" in his last hour. The amazing grace of God to reveal His manifest presence in heaven before the men drove in an impulse of hatred and stoned him to death. Look at the significance of this as they laid aside their robes at the feet of Saul who would later become Paul. Saul heard the proclamation of Jesus' presence in glory in the heavens at the right hand of God. We see that once again, the glory of God is His presence and it appears when men bravely surge forward in faith even in the midst of intense suffering. Acts 12:23 This is a graphic picture of the seriousness of neglecting to give God the glory. He was "struck" and he was "eaten by worms and died" because he did not "give God the glory". God is jealous for His own glory. Romans 1:23 Man "exchanges" the incorruptible glory of God for "an image in the form of corruptible man." Romans 3:23 We fall short of the "glory of God". We fall short of God's "approval". Romans 5:2 I love this passage, "we exult in hope of the glory of God" Romans 15:7 "Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God." This reality found in this phrase is absolutely wonderment to my soul. Jesus accepted us into the "approval", the "doxa", the glory of the living God. This is how we are to accept one another with intense loving grace. I Corinthians 10:31 In all things "do all to the glory of God". In your work, in your play, in your sleep, in your eating, in your drinking, as you walk in life, and in everything do all for His glory, for His praise, in His presence. II Corinthians 4:6 When God reveals Himself "in the the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." God's appetence is to manifest, reveal, and unveil His glory in our hearts as we get a vision from Him of Christ's face. Ephesians 1:14 "to the praise of His glory" God blesses us with all spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. He predestined us to adoption as sons. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. TO THE PRAISE OF THE GLORY OF HIS GRACE (Ephesians 1:6) He redeemed us through His blood. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. He lavished grace on us. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. He made known the mystery of His will. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. We have an inheritance. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. Philippians 2:11 The earth is filled with His glory, His manifest presence, His light, His power, His beauty. You will either bow now or later. BUT EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS THAT JESUS CHRIST IS LORD. Why? TO THE PRAISE OF HIS GLORY. I Thess 2:12 God has "called us into His own kingdom and glory" We are called into His presence. We have the rights to enter His holy presence, His glory. Titus 2:13 Titus looks for the "blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus". His manifest presence is here for us on earth, but the unsurpassable appearing in His presence in coming in His coming. Revelation 4:11 "Worthy are You, our Lord and our God, to receive glory and honor and power; for You created all things, and because of Your will they existed, and were created." I will declare the beauty of the Lord because nothing compares to the beauty of the Lord. The glory of God explodes from the pages of Scriptures as the "theme" of God. No subject can be written to compare with this subject. No theme compares. God is utterly consumed with His own glory. We have hope because our redemption, salvation, and justification by His infinite grace bring Him glory. May we live in the all consuming glory of our God, King of Kings, Lord of Lords, The First and the Last, The pure and holy Lamb, The Great I AM...GLORIFY HIM.
