The next cry of Jesus’ heart in the Lord’s Pattern of Prayer is a warfare and deliverance cry, “Do not lead us into temptation but deliver us from evil”. Now I remind you that this is Christ teaching us to pray. Jesus is calling us to battle. Peter Wagner writes, “As we begin moving into the 1990s, I sense, along with many other Christian leaders, that the Holy Spirit is saying, ‘Prepare for warfare.’ This decade may see the most intense spiritual warfare of recent times. We may see some of the greatest victories for God and His kingdom and we may see some of the most serious setbacks. The final outcome, however, is not in doubt. The power of Satan was definitely broken on the cross, and it to be may well be that the enemy knows the end is near and that he is waging a last ditch stand which will end at Armageddon.” I really believe that this is prophetic and true for our generation. The occult has subtly slipped into the four walls of the church with self help books and easy steps to happiness that show hope to our addictions and problems rather than confronting the enemies: the world, the flesh, and Satan. In Psalm 45, David outlines how to find true happiness, “You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of joy above Your fellows.” Do you want the anointing of the oil of gladness from God then HATE SIN AND LOVE RIGHTEOUSNESS. There has never been an age where the words are more relevant than NOW, “but this kind will not come out except by prayer and fasting…”(Matthew 17:21). The abandonment of the true gospel and the weakening our emphasis on the holiness of God gives a false deliverance from the god of this age. He is an angel of light. He is a liar. On I Timothy 4:1, Paul instructs us that there will be a rise of deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons and Paul is speaking of teachings that have crept into the church. I will make a bold statement right now. ANY DELIVERANCE THAT IS NOT IN THE POWER OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST THROUGH FAITH IN HIS FINISHED WORK IS FALSE RELIGION. ANY AUTHORITY OTHER THAN THE AUTHORITY OF JESUS NAME IS A FALSE AUTHORITY. ANY DELIVERANCE OTHER THAN THE DELIVERANCE THROUGH JESUS’ SHED BLOOD IS A FALSE ANSWER. This is straight forward and clear. Every other message or self made righteousness is to be counted as “cow dung” that we may gain Christ. No other righteousness but Jesus alone. No other steps, but steps to the cross at Calvary alone. No other counseling, but counsel from the Word of God and the Holy Spirit alone. No other name, but Jesus alone. No other method, but Jesus’ power alone. No other way, for Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no man comes to the Father but by Me.” This line in the Lord’s Pattern of Prayer is the key to victory as we do not conform to the world system, crucify the flesh and resist the devil. The key is this phrase, “GOD HELP ME, KEEP ME FROM EVIL, KEEP ME FROMA BARRAGE OF TEMPTATION, HELP ME TO RESIST, DELIVER ME, LORD!!” This is warfare. I love Peter Wagner on this topic, “I wish we didn't have to think about this phase of ministry as ‘warfare.’ After all, Christians are not advocates of war. Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace. If I, personally, were to choose an analogy for our struggle with the enemy, I might want to say it is like a football game. I could think of many very descriptive parallels between football and our adversarial relationship with Satan. This would be much more pleasant than talking in militaristic terms. I am not, however, free to do this. The Bible itself describes our fight against the devil as warfare, and I believe the reason for this is clear. We are in a life and death struggle. Football games are intense while they are being played, but very few people can remember who held the national championship two years ago. It doesn't make that much difference. But, unlike football, our spiritual struggle bears eternal consequences. It can mean the difference between heaven and hell for millions of people. Warfare is not a game. There is a finality to war unlike any other human activity.” Please church wake up! We are at war. This is spiritual warfare and our weapons are not of the flesh but divinely powerful for the destruction of strongholds. Do you want Kingdom living? If your answer is ‘yes’ than step into battle but step into battle in the name of Jesus, the Victorious Warrior. Psalm 45 says of Jesus, “You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever. Gird Your sword on Your thigh, O Mighty One, In Your splendor and Your majesty! And in Your majesty ride on victoriously, For the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness; Let Your right hand teach You awesome things. Your arrows are sharp; The peoples fall under You; Your arrows are in the heart of the King's enemies. Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.” (Psa 45:2-6) I love the words, “and in Your majesty ride on victoriously…” Come, Lord Jesus, to my rescue. We must look to Him for victory and Him alone. When Jesus was teaching us how to pray, He included this phrase that drives us to utter dependence on God’s deliverance and power. We cannot war by ourself. We must be hungry, thirsty and desperate for His power to free us from the traps and snares of Satan. Here are some practical daily steps to praying this part of the pattern of prayer. 1. Put on the Full Armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-20) Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS, and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE; in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the Spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert with all perseverance and petition for all the saints, and pray on my behalf, that utterance may be given to me in the opening of my mouth, to make known with boldness the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains; that in proclaiming it I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. (Eph 6:10-20) Pray these verses on a regular basis. I would recommend every day if not several times a day! 2. This is a prayer that I have included on my website on prayer (see resources for The Ultimate System of Prayer) Gracious God, I acknowledge that You are worthy of all honor, glory and praise. I am thankful for the victorious work of Your Son, Jesus Christ at Calvary for me. I appropriate His victory for myself now as I willingly surrender every area of my life to Your will. Thank you for the forgiveness and righteousness that has been given to me as Your adopted child. I trust in Your protection and provision daily. I know that your love for me never ceases. I rejoice in Your victory, my Lord, over all the principalities and powers in the heavenlies. In faith I stand in Your victory and commit myself to live obediently for You my King. I desire that my fellowship with You become greater. Reveal to me those things that grieve You and enables the enemy to secure an advantage in my life. I need the Holy Spirit's powerful ministry in my life; bringing conviction of sin, repentance of heart, strengthening my faith and increasing perseverance in resisting temptation. Help me to die to self and walk in the victory of the new creation You have provided for me. Let the fruits of the Spirit flow out of my life so that You will be glorified through my life. I know that it is Your will that I should stand firm and resist all of the enemy's work against me. Help me to discern the attacks upon my thoughts and emotions. Enable me to stand upon Your Word and resist all the accusations, distortions and condemnations that are hurled against me. It is my desire to be transformed through the renewing of my mind, so that I will not compromise with the ways of the world, or yield to the enemy's attacks, but be obedient to Your will. I draw upon those spiritual resources that You have provided me and I attack the strongholds and plans of the enemy that have been put in place against me. I command in the name of Jesus Christ that the enemy must release my mind, will, emotions and body completely. They have been yielded to the Lord and I belong to Him. Lord, enable me to become the person You created me to be. Help me as I pray to be strong in faith. Show me how to apply Your Word in my life each day. I know that I wear the full armor of God when I am committed to and stand firmly upon Your Word. I want You to have the supreme place in my life. I surrender myself completely to You, Lord. You are always faithful and You extend Your grace to me constantly, even when I do not realize it. I claim Your promise of forgiveness, cleansing and healing in its fullness. In faith, I receive the victory today that you have already put in place for me. I do this in the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior with a grateful heart. AMEN By Kurt Steele
